Facebook, one of the world’s leading social networking sites, has announced a ban on the advertising of online casinos despite ongoing efforts in the US to legalise and regulate the industry.

The site recently released a list of about 20 items that it finds objectionable with ‘gambling, including without limitation any online casino, sports books, bingo or poker’ near the top of the list alongside firearms, tobacco and spy cameras.

Other topics banned and set to be monitored under a strict policy of enforcement include uncertified pharmaceuticals, inflammatory religious content, pyramid schemes and nudity. Facebook revealed that its intention was to protect its online community by implementing a policy of advertising censorship.

However, businesses including online casino operators will still be able to create groups and Facebook pages in order to stay in contact with fans and players.
